Physical Activity, Exercise Safety, and Rediscovering Your Passion Through WalkSoccer
At WalkSoccer NSW, we see it every week.
Players arrive for their first session unsure of what to expect. Many haven’t played football in decades. Some never played at all. Yet within minutes, something remarkable happens, a spark is reignited. The passion for the game returns. The joy of movement, teamwork, and connection comes flooding back.
You’ve unleashed something powerful. Or perhaps rediscovered something that was always there.
But WalkSoccer is about much more than stepping onto the pitch each week.
It’s about embracing the fundamentals of physical activity safely, responsibly, and sustainably, so your time on the pitch remains fulfilling, enjoyable, and lifelong.
Exercise Is Essential — But Safety Comes First
Regular physical activity provides enormous benefits, especially as we age. It helps maintain:
-
Strength and balance
-
Cardiovascular health
-
Joint mobility and flexibility
-
Mental wellbeing and cognitive function
-
Social connection and sense of purpose
WalkSoccer has been specifically designed to maximise these benefits while minimising risk. Our core principles, walking only, no contact, exclusion zones, and respect for safety rules, exist to protect every player.
Taking the time to follow these fundamentals ensures you can continue to enjoy the game safely for years to come.
Listen to your body. Warm up properly. Follow referee instructions. Respect the pace of the game.
These simple habits make your WalkSoccer experience completely fulfilling.
More Than a Game — A Health Partnership
WalkSoccer NSW acknowledges the fabulous support of South Western Sydney Local Health District, along with local councils, in assisting us to establish and grow the Over-65s WalkSoccer programme across Sydney’s southwest.
This programme has been a tremendous success, improving physical health, social connection, and quality of life for older adults in the community.
As a result of this success, WalkSoccer programmes are now expanding into additional Sydney Local Government Areas, bringing safe, inclusive physical activity opportunities to more communities.
This partnership reflects what WalkSoccer represents at its core: community health, active ageing, and accessible sport for all.
